2nd blog Post

  • The most interesting source I have found is a book called Deep Vegetarianism by Michael Allen Fox. It's interesting because he starts off by giving insight into the history of vegetarianism and how it played a role in History. He does not directly dive into the benefits, but he starts off by giving a list of reason that he is going to mention throughout the book. What I really like about his writing is that with every reason, he has a supporting story or example of arguments people have chosen to become a vegetarian. He is also very credible in that he gives many facts and statistics, which help the reader believe what he is writing is true and not just some made up information. Another favorite part I have is when he connects vegetarianism with religion, being one of the main reason I have been one since the day I was born.
  • I can narrow my question to what are the benefits of vegetarianism and what makes people become one the most (the main reason)? I can incorporate these two ideas together and make it a more specific research topic. Narrowing down my question will help me find specific information that can be very argumentative as to why one should become a vegetarian and not only have to think that the only reason is because it is healthy. There is definitely more to it.
  • I am not facing many challenges while writing this paper. Tips I have for peers could be to not get off topic when researching because it can be very easy to use articles or sources that do not relate to your SPECIFIC topic as opposed to your actual topic.

Research Progress

-My research inquiry question is what are the benefits of vegetarianism?
-I settled on this question because I, myself, have been a vegetarian my whole life and I would love to share its benefits to my peers. What interests me about this topic is, it is a characteristic that defines me, meaning that it is a part of who I am and what makes me, me.
-My topic can be very timely depending on how many different viewpoints I look at. It could have numerous reason to being beneficial, but when one only brings up the benefits, people start to wonder about the negatives it can bring about. I think people should care about it because, nowadays, everyone is always wondering how to become more healthy and lose weight.
-Throughout my research, I expect to find reasons beyond just physical health for this dietary choice. The preliminary research I have conducted is looking up articles about people that are vegetarian.
-I have not really thought about talking to scholars of this situation. I think talking to a nutritionist would be the closest thing to a scholar on dietary choices. The views of authors so for, in what I have found, have been both negative and positive. As in, there are author that think very highly of taking upon this diet because animal cruelty is horrible, but other authors that could argue where people would get the nutrients they need from day to day.
-Being a vegetarian, I am obviously going to side with those that think only positive thoughts about vegetarianism, but I will not say the opposing people are wrong because in their viewpoint it could be right. My mind probably will not change during this process. The only case I can think of where my mind would change, would my deeper understanding of why being a vegetarian is a very healthy choice.
